Fishing For Families in Need (FFN) has two purposes.
One, to provide fresh deep-sea fish from local fishermen and tournaments to the Boca Helping Hands Soup Kitchen to serve and distribute. Fish is a high protein source, which the economically disadvantaged families cannot afford, but is a natural resource here in South Florida. FFN will be sharing the seas bounty with those who are in need of good nutrition. When fish is available it will be cleaned and transported by volunteers. Suggestions and connections to fish providers is welcomed.
The other mission of FFN is to provide a free weekly fishing clinic to low-income after school students at the Florence Fuller Center during the school year. Volunteers with fishing skills assist in the clinics with 15 elementary students from 3:30 p.m.– 4:30 p.m. once a week. At the end of each 8-week session, a graduation fishing party is hosted at the Deerfield pier. A dinner, certificates, and new fishing equipment is distributed to the graduates.
FFN’s goal is not only to provide fish to those in need to address nutritional needs but also to teach the youth to fish so that they will always have the tools to provide for their families.
